Discord Threads

Private Threads Explained

Most people will have come across public threads, but private threads aren't as easy to spot because they are private.

Private threads enable users to temporarily create a private line of communication between one or more users without needing to DM (direct message) or set up a new dedicated channel.‍

Why Mava Tickets Use Private Threads vs. New Channels

  1. Discord has a 500 channel per server and 50 channel per category limit. Busy servers, using other ticket tools in Discord will quickly reach this limit and the users will no longer be able to open new support tickets. Private threads on the other hand have a 1000 active thread limit making it much more scalable. Even when the 1,000 limit is reached, threads can be archived and will still be accessible, whereas channels need to be deleted.

  2. More Organized - Private threads can keep a server organized and avoid multiple redundant channels. Threads can be set to auto-archive after a certain period of time to keep things tidy.

  3. Searchable - users can search private threads later. The message history will no longer be searchable if a separate channel is set up and then deleted; this isn't the case with private threads, which are easily searchable later.

Thread Archiving

Mava automatically archives threads after 7 days of inactivity. If you're running a busy server and you think you might reach the 1000 active thread limit, then reach out to the team and this can be reduced from 7 days to either 72 or 24 hours.

When a support ticket is marked as resolved IF customer feedback is enabled the thread will remain open for 7 days or until feedback has been provided. IF customer feedback is disabled, the tread will auto-close and lock as soon as the ticket is marked as resolved and archived after 7 days.

After a thread has been archived, users will still be able to search for it and read the contents if they have permission to view the thread.

Users will also receive a transcript after a ticket is closed.

How to Find Existing Discord Threads (Active or Archived)

Mava threads automatically archive themselves after 24 hours to keep your Discord clutter-free. If you want to find a recent or old Discord private thread, it’s quickly done.

1. Either navigate to the channel the threads were created and press the β€œ#” on the top right of the channel.

2. A dropdown window will then open up where you can see a list of all the threads that are either active or have been archived. Click on any of the threads or search to find the one you are looking for.
